The Great Resignation VS Employee Engagement

The Great Resignation.. again?!? Yes, we are still dissecting and understanding WHY it is happening.
To recap — Americans are quitting their jobs are record levels (quitting, not being let go) Source:
The reasons are varied:

  • Toxic workplaces

  • They hate what they are doing

  • They want to pursue their dreams

  • They feel like work does not care about them

Here is the thing — The Great Resigntation could have been (partially) avoided if we focused on engagement.

What is engagement? To me, it is the act of being involved in your work. Simply put, you show up to work at actually show up.

Employers are missing the mark.
They have employees that come to work physically, but they check out mentally.

So, here is what I suggest: Let’s boost engagement by having employees do what they do best. Use their Strengths.

The days I struggle the most with focusing at work are days when I have to do tasks that I suck at.
They are things that I do not enjoy doing.
But the days when I do the things I love? They fly by!

So, how do we create an environment that prospers and helps to retain employees?

We start with Strengths. It starts by recognizing what your team members do well and giving them the chance to do it again.
It means spending meetings learning about your team’s Strengths.

The quickest route to building a team that is engaged is to give everyone the common language. Have a trainer come in and work with your team.

Here is the challenging part: once the training is done, keep talking about Strengths.
Integrate it into staff meetings. Include it in the regular coaching you do with your teams. Talk with your supervisor about it.
